Te Hiku 97.1 FM is part of the iwi communities of Te Hiku o Te Ika/the Far North, and belongs collectively to it’s five iwi. Te Hiku FM and was born out of the dreams and aspirations of our kuia and kaumātua (elders), as a way to retain Māori language communication within our whānau, hapu and iwi. The iwi radio format is packed with local news, interactive talkback and Waiata in Te Reo Māori. The station promotes the use of Te Reo Māori as a means of everyday communication, and whilst targeted at native speakers, listening to the station is a great way to improve Te Reo Māori for beginners, and second language learners.
