It’s said a stitch in time saves nine, and students around the globe are trying to do just that with fast fashion and textile waste.
Students at Chisipite Senior School in Zimbabwe set out to sew 120 reusable produce bags out of discarded mosquito nets, which reduces the chances of them being repurposed as harmful fishing nets, as well as cutting the need for single-use plastic bags.
At DSC International School in Hong Kong, students launched a thrift shop for #CallToEarthDay, giving unwanted clothes a second chance at life. Selling items for up to HK$25 ($3.20), money raised will be donated to the Hong Kong non-profit Redress.
And at the Finnish School of Kosovo, students repurposed old clothes that they no longer use into new designs, by sewing different pieces together.
