Belgijski sprinter Tim Merlier wygrał w Dubaju czwarty odcinek wyścigu UAE Tour.
Kolarz Soudal Quick-Step wyprzedził Holendrów Arvida de Kleijna (Tudor) i Olafa Kooija (Visma | Lease a Bike).
Liderem wyścigu pozostał Australijczyk Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates).
W czwartym dniu kolarze przejechali 168 kilometrów, po ulicach Dubaju. Trud ucieczki podjęło dwóch zawodników, po raz kolejny lider klasyfikacji punktowej Mark Stewart (Team Corratec-Vini Fantini) oraz Harm Vanhoucke (Lotto Dstny). Odskoczyli na 4 mniuty.
Brytyjczyk po dojechaniu do drugiej lotnej premii (87 km) odhaczył robotę, wracając do peletonu. Belg kontynuował akcję, ale już 49 kilometrów przed metą również jego przygoda dobiegła końca.
Cała wielka grupa spokojnie zmierzała do mety. Na początku strefy ochronnej, obejmujacej 3 ostatnie kilometry, doszło do kraksy z udziałem lidera wyścigu, lecz nie miała ona wpływu na rozegrany finisz.
Tu pierwszy wystrzelił Kooij, ale ustawiony na jego kole Merlier był znacznie szybszy. Dobrze na finiszu odnalazł się Stanisław Aniołkowski (Cofidis), któremu udało się wywalczyć 4. pozycję.
Mogło to wyglądać na łatwe zwycięstwo, ale takie nie było. Sprinty nigdy nie są łatwe. Dobrze z drużyną odnaleźliśmy się dziś na finiszu. Koledzy wyprowadzili mnie na bardzo dobrą pozycji. Na ostatnich 500 metrach czekałem na rozpoczęcie sprintu. Chciałem ruszyć wcześnie, ale nie udało mi się. Olav Kooij zrobił to pierwszy, a ja go wyprzedziłem. Cieszę się, że ponownie wygrałem. Miło słyszeć, że tworzę historię jako pierwszy sprinter, który wygrał dwa etapy w dwóch kolejnych UAE Tour. Chcę przejść do historii w ciągu następnych dwóch dni, ponieważ drużyna jest na dobrej drodze do kolejnych sukcesów, nie będzie to jednak łatwe
– skomentował swój sukces Merlier.
