Kolumbijczyk wyrzutem roweru na kreskę uprzedził Olava Kooija (Jumbo-Visma). Trzeci przyjechał Nowozelandczyk Sam Welsford (Team DSM).
Liderem zmagań pozostał Belg Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick-Step).
Do dzisiejszego etapu, liczącego 174 kilometry, nie przystąpił poobijany Frederik Rodenberg (Team DSM).
Odjazd dnia zaraz po starcie zawiązali Alex Baudin (AG2R Citroen Team), Alessandro Tonelli oraz Samuele Zoccarato (Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizane). Prowadząca trójka zyskała maksymalnie 3 minuty przewagi nad peletonem kontrolowanym przez ekipy sprinterskie i podzieliła między sobą lotne premie w środkowej części dystansu.
Podczas pokonywania Palm Jumeirah, sztucznej wyspy słynącej z luksusowych hotel i ekskluzywnych wieżowców, niecałe 30 kilometrów przed metą, przewaga ucieczki spała poniżej minuty. Przeciąganie liny między grupami trwało jednak bardzo długo, a trójka została wchłonięta ostatecznie dopiero 3 kilometry przed metą.
Sprinterskie pociągi nie miały wystarczająco dużo czasu, aby ułożyć szyki. Peleton wachlował więc od lewej do prawej strony kilkupasmowej drogi. Żaden z zespołów nie zyskał przewagi w ostrym zakręcie 750 metrów przed metą.
Korzystając z zamieszania, jako pierwszy finisz otworzył Fernando Gaviria (Movistar Team). Na jego koło siadł były torowiec Welsford, który wysforował się na prowadzenie. Jednak tuż przed linią mety nakryli go – po lewej stronie Kooij, a po prawej Molano. Fotofinisz zadecydował o zwycięstwie tego drugiego.
